An optometrist is a healthcare professional and eye doctor who specializes in examining, diagnosing, treating, and managing visual disorders and eye diseases. Optometrists are primary eye-care doctors trained to prescribe corrective lenses and eye medication, detect eye abnormalities, and provide non-surgical treatment for many ocular conditions.
Optometrists hold the Doctor of Optometry (OD) in many countries such as US, Canada, australia, UK. In nations such as India, they are recognized as eye-care doctors upon completion of a professional Bachelor of Optometry (B.Optom) degree, which qualifies them to independently examine and manage patients’ vision health.
