Paula Modersohn-Becker (8 February 1876 – 20 November 1907) was a German painter.

She was one of the first and most important expressionist painters. She did many self-portraits, including nudes. She created over 700 paintings in her short career. She was the first known woman painter to do nude self-portraits, including some where she appears pregnant.

The artist died shortly after giving birth, from a embolism, aged 31 years old. She was the first woman to have a museum dedicated to her art, the Paula Modersohn-Becker Museum, in 1927.[1]
