Propellant

chemical substance used for propulsion or pressurization From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Propellant is something that expands as a gas to propel something else. Aerosol spray cans, for example, have a liquid propellant that boils into a gas to push another liquid out of the can. Guns and rockets have propellants in them that burn, creating hot gases.
