Russell Means

Russell Charles Means (November 10, 1939 – October 22, 2012) was an American Oglala Sioux activist, writer, politician, musician, television and movie actor who is known for his activisim to the American Indian Movement. He is also known for his roles in Pathfinder, Thomas and the Magic Railroad and in Pocahontas.

In 1983 he agreed to become running mate to Larry Flynt in his unsuccessful run for U.S. President.^[1]

Means was born on November 10, 1939 in Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, South Dakota.^[2] He studied at San Leandro High School. Means was married five times, the first four ended in divorce. He has ten children. Means died on October 22, 2012 in Rapid City, South Dakota from esophageal cancer, aged 72.^[1]
