The United States Social Security Administration (SSA)[2] is an independent agency of the U.S. federal government that is in charge of Social Security, a social insurance program for people living in retirement, with a disability or are survivor benefits.
The Social Security Administration was created by the Social Security Act of 1935. It was created in 1935 as the "Social Security Board".
Its current leader is Commissioner Frank Bisignano.[3]
