In 2010, the song was uploaded to YouTube by Three Ply Chord. As of 24 March 2019^[update], it has been seen over 27 million times.^[1] An extended dance mix of the song has had over 84 million views.^[2]

Thanks to the numerous YouTube videos and various remixes, the song has became increasingly popular, with the band Red Hot Chili Peppers even doing a version of it at a live Halloween performance.^[3] Forbes listed "Spooky Scary Skeletons" fourth in their top 20 list of Halloween songs.^[4]
