WrestleMania XXIX (also known as WrestleMania NY/NJ) was the twenty-ninth yearly WrestleMania professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) event made by WWE. It took place on April 7, 2013 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.[2] The event was the fifth WrestleMania in the New York metropolitan area and the third WrestleMania held in the state of New Jersey.[3]
In the main event, John Cena faced The Rock in a rematch from WrestleMania XXVIII the previous year. Cena won the match and became a record 11-time WWE Champion. Also on the card, The Undertaker defeated CM Punk, Triple H defeated Brock Lesnar in a No Holds Barred match, Alberto Del Rio defeated Jack Swagger to keep his World Heavyweight Championship, this was the final time the championship was defended at WrestleMania.
There was an 8-man mixed tag team match scheduled between Tons of Funk (Brodus Clay and "Sweet T" Tensai) (with Cameron and Naomi) and Team Rhodes Scholars (Cody Rhodes and Damien Sandow) (with The Bella Twins) but the match was pulled from the card on short notice because of time constraints.[4]
