In organic chemistry, xylene (systematically dimethylbenzene) is the common name of three related chemical compounds with the chemical formula (CH3)2C6H4. All three xylenes are found by replacing two hydrogen atoms in benzene with a methyl group. A mixture of these three compounds is called mixed xylenes, which also often includes ethylbenzene.
