Albert Sidney Johnston was a Confedeate general during the American Civil War. He was born in 1803 in Tennessee. He graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1826. He resigned from the U.S. army in 1834 after his wife died. He then joined the Texas army during the Texas Revolution and continued serving in it after Texas became a republic. In 1840 he resigned from the Texas army and moved to Kentucky.
