Marghita (maď. Margitta) je mesto v Bihárskej župe v Rumunsku, nachádzajúce sa 56 km severovýchodne od župného mesta Oradea.

Najstaršie archeologické nálezy sa datujú do doby kamennej, bronzovej a železnej. Po christianizácii Maďarov, v roku 1000 kráľ Štefan I. pripojil Sedmohradsko k Uhorskému kráľovstvu. Počas tatárskeho vpádu roku 1241 bola osada vypálená a väčšina obyvateľov bola zajatá alebo zabitá. Utiekli iba tí, čo sa schovali v okolitých lesoch. Po invázii sa ľudia do Marghity vrátili a obnovili svoje domovy spálil. Dokumenty hovoria, že názov mal v histórii tri podoby: Marghiureta, Margitfalva a Marghita. Podľa legiend názov pochádza buď z porastov králikov (rum. margarete) v okolí mesta, alebo z údajného kostola svätej Margaréty z Antiochie, ktorý sa mal v blízkosti mesta nachádzať.[chýba zdroj]
Prvá písomná zmienka o meste je z roku 1216. V štrnástom storočí sa mesto stalo centrom maďarského panstva v oblasti. V roku 1332 je zaznamenané pod názvom Margitfalva. V roku 1376 kráľ Ľudovít I. udelil Marghite právo usporadúvať trhy, čo spôsobilo masívny rozmach mesta. Počas feudalizmu sa odohrali nepokoje, napríklad v rokoch 1467 a 1514.
Na začiatku 16. storočia prišli do Európy Turci. Po porážke Maďarov pri Moháči v roku 1526 Uhorsko odstúpili Osmanskej ríši južné provincie, medzi nimi aj Bihársku župu. Mesto zostalo dôležitým obchodným centrom. V rokoch 1710 a 1739 zachvátil mesto mor a zdecimoval populáciu.
Na začiatku osemnásteho storočia, s oslabením tureckej sily, sa Marghita stala súčasťou habsburskej monarchie. V roku 1823 zničil požiar takmer polovicu mesta. Počas revolučného roku 1948 boli v Marghite zaznamenané veľké vzbury. Hoc porazená, striktne vzaté bola revolúcia pre mesto úspešná – bolo zrušené nevoľníctvo, čo viedlo k zásadným zmenám v živote mesta. Zvýšil sa počet remeselných výrobcov a každý piatok sa začali organizovať trhy. Poľnohospodárska výroba bola organizovaná na farmách, z Prahy a Viedne boli privezené nové poľnohospodárske stroje.
V roku 1852 získali mesto Čákiovci, ktorí tu postavili hrad. Nový majiteľ zväčšil význam mesta. V tej dobe tu žilo cca 5 000 obyvateľov.
Po prvej svetovej vojne sa Transylvánia spojila s niekdajším Rumunským kráľovstvom a stala sa súčasťou tzv. veľkého Rumunska. Mesto sa veľmi rýchlo rozvíjalo, najmä v oblasti remeselnej výroby. V roku 1920 žilo v meste asi 7 000 obyvateľov prevažne rumunskej, maďarskej a židovskej národnosti. Roku 1940 bolo okupované Horthyho vojskami. V rokoch 1940 – 1944 bolo z mesta deportovaných asi 1 700 Židov. Oslobodené bolo 20. októbra 1944 rumunskými a sovietskymi vojskami.
Komunistický režim bol v Rumunsku od roku 1947 a rovnako ako v celej krajine, prejavil sa aj v Marghite. Všetok majetok prešiel do rúk štátu. Ale v najbližších rokoch, mesto zažívalo obdobie najintenzívejšieho vývoja v svojej histórii. Objavil sa prvý ťažký priemysel. V rokoch 1949 – 1960 sa v meste začala vyrábať najmä obuv, oblečenie a z ťažkého priemyslu rôzne kovové konštrukcie a frézy. Po roku 1960 sa Marghita stala sídlom s takmer čisto priemyselným charakterom. Poľnohospodárske a remeselné mesto má jasné trendy industrializácie. Badať prírastok obyvateľov. Podľa sčítania ľudu roku 1964 malo mesto 10 175 obyvateľov.
Po revolúcii roku 1989, ktorá viedla k pádu komunistického režimu v Rumunsku sa začalo, ako aj v iných európskych postkomunistických krajinách s masívnou privatizáciou. V meste otvorilo svoje podniky niekoľko súkromných spoločností, mnoho ľudí začalo podnikať. V roku 1989 tu žilo asi 19 000 obyvateľov, z toho 17 000 v centre, v časti Cheț 1200 a v časti Ghenetea 700.

Mesto je známe najmä vďaka tunajším termálnym kúpeľom. V okolí sa nachádzajú tri pramene. Najčastejším cieľom turistických vychádzok je vrch Plopiș.
