Herman Kahn

Herman Kahn(* 15. február 1922, Bayonne, New Jersey, USA – † 7. júl 1983, Chappaqua, New York) bol americký futurológ, prognostik, nukleárny stratég, matematik, fyzik, systémový teoretik a politický vedec. Je považovaný za jedného zo zakladateľov americkej futurológie. Do roku 1961 pôsobil v RAND Corporation. V roku 1961 založil Hudson Institute, kde pôsobil vo funkcii riaditeľa.

Tvorca scenárov

Herman Kahn výrazne prispel k vytvoreniu metodológie scenárov a ich využívaniu v strategickom rozhodovaní. Scenáre budúcnosti začal nazývať scenármi na návrh spisovateľa a tvorcu filmových scenárov Leo Rostena, ktorý vtedy pracoval v Hollywoode. Herman Kahn vtedy pracoval v RAND Corporation v Santa Monice, čo je mesto od Hollywoodu nie veľmi vzdialené. Scenármi sa zaoberal najmä vo svojích knihách On Thermonuclear War (1960), Thinking about Unthinkinkable (1962) , On Escalation (1965), The Year 2000. A Framework for Speculation on the Next Thirty-Three Years (1967).

Podľa Hermana Kahna je scenár je pokusom popísať viacmenej detailne určitý predpokladaný sled udalosti. Scenáre zdôrazňujú z rôznych hľadísk budúce udalosti. Niektoré scenáre môžu skúmať a zdôrazňovať určitý prvok v väčšieho problému, ako je kríza alebo iná udalosť, ktorá by mohla viesť k vojne, proces prerastania malej vojny alebo miestneho konfliktu do väčšej vojny, rozšírenie alebo zúženie akcií obmedzenej vojny, ukončenie vojny a problém mieru po vojne. Kahn uvádza, že scenár je zvlášť vhodný vtedy, ak máme posúdiť rôzne aspekty problému viacmenej súčasne. S pomocou rozsiahleho scenára môže bádateľ systematicky preskúmať rôzne možnosti a získať cit pre udalosti a rozhodujúce momenty, kedy je životne dôležité urobiť správnu voľbu. Scenár pomáha našej predstavivosti.
