งานประกาศผลรางวัลออสการ์ ครั้งที่ 8 จัดขึ้นเมื่อวันที่ 5 มีนาคม ค.ศ. 1936 ที่ Biltmore Bowl, Biltmore Hotel ลอสแอนเจลิส ในครั้งนี้เป็นครั้งสุดท้ายมีการอนุญาตให้เขียนแสดงความคิดเห็นเพิ่มเติมลงในใบลงคะแนนเสียงรอบสุดท้ายเช่นเดียวกับครั้งที่ผ่านมา นอกจากนี้ ยังเป็นครั้งแรกที่บริษัท Price Waterhouse ซึ่งเป็นองค์กรภายนอกได้เป็นผู้นับคะแนนเสียงอีกด้วย

ในงานครั้งนี้ มีสมาชิกออสการ์หลายคนได้คว่ำบาตรไม่เข้าร่วมงานประกาศผล เนื่องจากเกิดข้อพิพาทระหว่างสมาคมอุตสหกรรมภาพยนตร์กับอคาเดมีในเรื่องแถลงการณ์สหภาพแรงงาน

ตั้งแต่ปีค.ศ. 1935 - ค.ศ. 1938 รางวัลดนตรีประกอบภาพยนตร์ยอดเยี่ยม (Best Score) จะมอบให้กับค่ายเพลงแทนที่จะมอบให้กับนักแต่งเพลงเหมือนครั้งอื่นๆ
