印章，或謂圖章，文具也。印乎文牘，以之鑒定，如用代署。染丹粉，然後可以印之。印乎蠟、火漆者亦有之。
秦以前，民皆以金玉爲印，龍虎鈕，唯其所好。秦以來，天子獨以印稱璽，又獨以玉，群臣莫敢用。[一]
