南原之战是第二次万历朝鲜之役中于1597年8月12日至8月15日(即万历二十五年七月廿三至七月廿六)发生在南原城的战斗。

1597年,日本撕毁停战协议,发动第二次侵朝战争。丰臣秀吉下达了攻略全罗道的命令。明军则由麻贵守汉阳、陈愚衷守全州、吴惟忠守忠州、茅国器守星州,试图用钳形攻势包围日军的物资中转站釜山。在8月27日(七月十五)的漆川梁海战中,朝鲜水军遭到日军伏击而大败,几乎全军覆没;日军便开始分水陆两栖进攻全罗道,宇喜多秀家五万六千人的大军直指南原城;毛利秀元率军攻打黄石山城。
南原城内共有杨元率领的明军骑兵三千人;朝鲜方面,则由全罗兵使李福男、南原府使任铉、助防将金敬老、光阳县监李春元、唐将接伴使郑期远等召集了一千名朝鲜兵一起守卫。杨元到达南原城后便加强了城池的防御,挖掘一二丈深的护城河,并在城门安放了三门大炮。
8月12日,日军到达南原城下。南原城建于平原之上,日军以宇喜多秀家、藤堂高虎、太田一吉攻南门,小西行长、宗义智、胁坂安治、竹中重利攻西门,加藤嘉明、岛津义弘攻北门,蜂须贺家政、毛利吉成、生驹一正攻东门。日军使用火绳枪攻击城上的守军,明、朝联军也用大炮和箭矢还击。不过由于守军装备落后,处于劣势。守城战更使明军骑兵无法发挥优势。
随着时间的推移,南原城守军不断阵亡,士气逐渐低落。杨元向全州守将陈愚衷求救,但陈愚衷却按兵不动。到了攻防战的第四天,日军填埋了护城河,并使用攻城梯攻上了城墙。杨元决定逃出城去,派人招呼朝鲜将军李福男等人,但李福男拒绝了这个建议。杨元便杀出南门,向汉阳方向逃去。明将毛承先、朝鲜将李福男等英勇战死。随后日军进行屠城。
南原之战后,日军长驱直入,攻破全州、黄石山城、公州等地,威胁汉阳。麻贵被迫将各地守军召集到汉阳。这种局势直到后来稷山之战爆发后才得到转机。
