尤金·毕德生

尤金·H·彼得森（英语：Eugene H. Peterson，1932年11月6日—2018年10月22日）是美国更正教神学家和牧者。^[1]他的著作多达三十本，当中包括金牌书籍奖（Gold Medallion Book Award）得奖名作《信息本圣经》（The Message）。^[2][3][4]此翻译以意译为主，着重把圣经用当代美式英文生动地表达当中意思。^[5]

生平

彼得森于1932年11月6日出生于华盛顿州斯坦伍德，后在蒙大拿州卡利斯佩尔成长。他于西雅图太平洋大学完成哲学文学学士学位、在纽约神学院完成神圣神学学士学位、又在约翰斯·霍普金斯大学完成闪米语硕士学位。^[6]

他拥有多个荣誉博士学位。^[7]他于1962年在马里兰州 贝莱尔创立了基督我王长老教会。^[8]他在此教会当年29年主任牧师，直至退休。他后于1992至1998年期间在维真神学院当雅各·M·候士顿灵性神学教授（James M. Houston Professor of Spiritual Theology）。^[9][10]

争议

彼得森曾发表有关同性恋的言论备受争议。他于2017年7月12日在《宗教新闻服务社 （页面存档备份，存于互联网档案馆）》（Religion News Service）支持同性婚姻，此与他的宗派美国长老教会立场一致。后来，他澄清相关立场：

“最近有记者询问我对同性恋和同性婚姻的看法有否改变，我假设此问题是基于我以前是美国长老教会的牧者，而此宗派最近支持同性恋及允许神职人员主持同性婚礼。我已退休了将近25年，我承认我跟记者说‘我没有许多相关经验。’再澄清一下，我支持圣经的婚姻观：一男一女的结合。我支持一切圣经的价值。”^[11]

死亡

彼得森于2018年10月8日因身体状况突然恶化而被送往医院。他的儿子艾瑞克·彼得森在电邮中提及是因发炎引起。由2017年开始，彼得森出版了他的最后一本书《翠鸟着火》已甚少出席公共场合。此时段刚巧与同性恋争议的同期发生。在彼得森快要过身的日子，他的家人提到：“那时（即他最后的日子），他显然在思考地上与天堂之间那狭窄又神圣的空间。我们听到他在跟别人说话、似是有人在迎接他到乐园。还有一、两次他重拾他灵恩派的习惯、说起方言来。”可见彼得森死前的日子充满“喜乐与微笑”。

彼得森经过一星期的住院，在2018年10月22日死于心脏衰竭，享年85岁。^[12]

《信息本圣经》

《信息本圣经》可算是彼得森最有名的著作。此翻译的原意是要为现代的读者提供更浅白易明的版本、更明白原文的含意。

“当大数的保罗写信给别人，大多数人能即时明白他的意思。又如先知以赛亚讲道时，我不相信人们会到图书馆查考他的意思。此正是我翻译的原则---我由新约圣经的希腊文开始。此语言深奥，文法又参差不齐又难懂。我尝试写了页、想像加拉太人听起来的样子。”^[6]
