露丝·鲍尔·贾华拉

露丝·鲍尔·贾华拉，CBE（英语：Ruth Prawer Jhabvala，1927年5月7日—2013年4月3日），英国作家。曾于1975年获布克奖，亦于1986年及1992年分别两次拿下奥斯卡最佳改编剧本奖。

生平

生于德国科隆，波兰的犹太人，1939年举家从纳粹德国逃往英国，1948年获英国籍。1951年于伦敦玛丽王后大学毕业，获英语文学硕士学位；同年与一名印度建筑师Cyrus H. Jhabvala结婚，其后二人移居印度德里，育有三名女儿。1975年贾华拉搬往纽约，后归化美国籍。

事业

贾华拉与莫香特艾佛利电影制作公司长期合作。该公司由电影导演詹姆斯·艾佛利（James Ivory）以及后来加入的制片人伊斯梅尔·莫香特所组成，因善于用唯美手法把描述二十世纪初英国的小说搬上银幕而闻名，旗下作品更曾拿下六座奥斯卡金像奖；他们三人亦因此被称之为“三头神”（但他们其实没有一个是土生土长的英国人）。

小说代表作为《热与尘（英语：Heat and Dust）》（暂译，原名Heat and Dust），也即是1975年的布克奖得主；亦把不少以英国中上流社会为背景的小说改编成剧本，更因改编E·M·福克斯特的《霍华兹庄园》及《看得见风景的房间》为剧本而两次获得奥斯卡最佳改编剧本奖。

2013年4月3日，贾华拉于纽约因肺病逝世。^[1]
