澳大利亚司法部长（英语：Attorney-General of Australia，香港作澳洲律政部长）^{[2][3][4][注 1]} （页面存档备份，存于互联网档案馆），是澳洲联邦的首席律政专员、澳洲官方的首席法律顾问及负责澳洲律政部的部长。律政部长通常是联邦内阁成员，但并非必须如此。根据澳洲宪法，律政部长由总督在谘询总理的意见后委任，其任期由总督酌情决定。在实践中，律政部长是具有党籍的政治人物，其任期受政治因素影响。按照惯例（而非宪制要求），律政部长会由受过法律专业训练者担任，可为大律师或事务律师。

律政部长通常都受过法律专业训练；曾有11位前律政部长在卸任后获得了委任为高级人员。

比利·休斯是澳洲任职时间最长的律政部长，在四个非连续任期内一共任职13年半，包括由他自己兼任总理的六年。

从历史上看，律政部长职位被视为通往更高职位的垫脚石。

职分

律政部长是负责法律事务、国家及公众安全的部长。律政部长还担任澳洲内阁的总法律顾问，负责处理版权、人权和其他一系列事宜的立法。他们还负责法律改革委员会（英语：Australian Law Reform Commission）及公正执法委员会（英语：Australian Commission for Law Enforcement Integrity）。

职能

联邦律政部长及各州律政司的职能包括管理司法职位人选的提名过程及批准刑事检控。在正常情况下，律政部长的刑事检控权力由刑事检控专员（Director of Public Prosecutions）及其下属负责法律事务的职员行使。然而，律政部长拥有正式的控制权——包括提出及终止检控以及接管私人检控的权力。

澳洲刑事法律规定，对某些罪行的检控需要律政部长的个人同意。 这通常适用于非法性具有一定争议的犯罪，或被认为有可能启动政治性质检控的重大风险的犯罪。律政部长通常也有权就某些事实（例如，在法庭诉讼中披露某些事项可能对国家安全构成风险）签发具有法律效力的证明；法院必须接受此类证书中所述的事实，任何一方均不得在法律上提出异议。律政部长也有权就案件提出中止检控（nolle prosequi）。中止检控令具有权威性，确定国家（以其名义提起诉讼）不希望检控该案件，并将阻止任何人这样做。

⁴ Prime Minister Paul Keating's original choice for Attorney-General in 1993 had been Michael Lavarch, but Lavarch's re-election was delayed by the death of an opposing candidate for the seat of Dickson; Duncan Kerr held the portfolio in the interim until Lavarch won the resulting supplementary election. Kerr served as Attorney-General for 26 days. There was no Attorney-General for the eight days between Duffy's commission ending on 24 March 1993 and Kerr's commission commencing on 1 April 1993.
