此节目在2003年9月试拨3集，直到2005年7月26日才转为系列节目播出。2012年11月21日，麦可·罗对外宣布探索频道决定停播，不会再推出新一季节目。
节目概要
主持人麦可·罗必须担任一位尽职的助手来帮助完成不同的艰难工作，尽管工作有多危险且令人不适，他皆需尽力完成，经常弄得自己一身脏，而节目的摄影师道格·葛罗佛（Doug Glover）因拍摄过程也常弄得一样脏。
麦可经常拿这些工作来当作玩笑的话题，并形容他们是“苦差事”，但他并不会开这些工作的员工们的玩笑，反而对他们相当尊敬，因为他们勇于接受这些平常人不会碰触的工作。
此节目已以下这段麦可口述的引言作为开头：
