初封餘姚公主，嫁桓溫之次子桓濟，桓濟想謀殺叔父桓沖，被流放，司馬道福與他離婚。後來她對王獻之有意，父親簡文帝知道後就下令王獻之與表姐郗道茂離婚，和司馬道福結婚。他們的女兒王神愛後為晉安帝司馬德宗（司馬道福侄子）的皇后。司馬道福死後，諡號愍，追封新安公主。
