罐頭是一種包裝物品的容器，由薄金屬做成。開啟罐頭時必須使用罐頭刀，有些罐頭有仿易開罐設計的拉環，則不需使用罐頭刀。

罐頭可以保存罐裝食品、飲料，也可以用來存放機油、鞋油等化學品。鋼罐頭可以由鍍鋅的馬口鐵做成，也可以用不帶錫的鐵片。

歷史

罐頭的概念源自於法國發明家尼古拉·阿佩爾使用玻璃罐子的食品保存實驗。金屬罐頭相傳是由法國人Philippe de Girard（英語：Philippe de Girard）發明，但這門技術傳到了代替申請專利的彼得·杜蘭（英語：Peter Durand）手下，在1810年見諸專利。[1]不過杜蘭並沒有進入食品罐裝食品行業。他在1812年把專利賣給了另兩個英國人，布萊恩·唐金（英語：Bryan Donkin）、約翰·霍爾（英語：John Hall (canner)）。這兩位改進了生產工藝，在倫敦的Southwark Park Road上開設了世界上第一家罐頭食品廠。到1813年，這家食品廠已經在給英國皇家海軍供貨。到1820年，罐頭的用處已經擴展到火藥、種子、松節油的儲存。

早期的罐頭是通過有鉛焊錫軟釺焊密封，有一定的鉛中毒風險。

在1901年，美國成立了美國罐頭公司（英語：American Can Company），專門生產空罐頭。這一家公司當時滿足了全美國90%的需求。[2]
