1950年由永州專區改名。在今湖南省南部。轄零陵、新田、寧遠、江華、永明、道縣、東安、祁陽等縣。專員公署駐零陵縣（今永州市）。1952年撤銷，劃歸湘南行署區。1962年恢復零陵專區。1964年設瀟水林區管理局。1968年改零陵地區。
