製備

氟化釓可由氧化釓氟化氫銨加熱反應得到,反應分為兩步:[1][2]

Gd2O3 + 6 NH4HF2 → 2 NH4GdF4 + 4 NH4F + 3 H2O
NH4GdF4 → GdF3 + NH3 + HF

氯化釓氫氟酸反應,用熱水洗滌沉澱,得到GdF3·xH2O(x=0.53)。若要獲得無水物,可以將水合物和氟化氫銨混合加熱,如果直接加熱水合物,會有GdOF生成。[3]

GdCl3 + 3 HF + x H2O → GdF3·xH2O + 3 HCl
