• Literally是figuratively的反義詞，因此很多官方機構反對將literally用作比喻用法的語氣加強詞，比如「you literally become the ball」，不帶任何比喻義的話，就是指「你變成了球」，而這是不可能的，但是實際上，這是說話人在使用literally作為語氣加強詞，來強調比喻義的程度。這種用法在非正式口語中很常見（「she was literally in floods of tears」）。
