生平
李湘萼于道光二十四年（1844年）中甲辰科举人，[1]道光二十七年（1847年）考中张之万榜二甲进士。历任宜良[2]、大姚、宁洱等县知县，官至云南云州知州。[3]因事被革职。[4]
家族
李湘萼出身于安丘峰山李氏，家族登科第者甚多。
祖父李策为乾隆二十五年（1760年）进士，官知县。父李于垣为乾隆四十八年（1783年）癸卯科举人，官至广顺州知州。叔父李于培为嘉庆元年（1796年）丙辰科进士，官至分巡天津道。
