转移酶是一种催化一个分子(称为供体)的官能团(如甲基磷酸盐团)转移至另一个分子(称为受体)的。 举例来说,一种酶催化以下的化学反应就是转移酶:

在这例子中的A就是供体,而B就是受体。供体一般都会被称为辅酶

命名

转移酶是以“(供体)(受体)(官能团)转移酶”的格式来命名。但是,亦有一些其他格式而普遍的名称:“(受体)(官能团)转移酶”或“(供体)(官能团)转移酶”,例如DNA甲基转移酶就是一种能催化甲基转移至脱氧核糖核酸(DNA)受体的转移酶。

分类

转移酶在EC编号中分类为EC2,并再细分为9个子类:

  • EC2.1包括转移一个分子团的酶
  • EC2.2包括转移的酶
  • EC2.3包括酰基转移酶
  • EC2.4包括糖基转移酶
  • EC2.5包括转移烷基芳基的酶,但不包括转移甲基
  • EC2.6包括转移含团的酶
  • EC2.7包括转移含团的酶
  • EC2.8包括转移含团的酶
  • EC2.9包括转移含团的酶
