回旋管是一种能产生高功率微波真空管,借由加速电子在强大的磁场中做回旋运动,同步、群聚进而产生的毫米电磁波。输出的频率范围约20至250 GHz波长涵盖的范围从微波太赫兹波段的边缘。典型的回旋管输出功率范围从几十千瓦兆瓦都有。回旋管可被设计成脉冲或是连续操作的功率输出。


电子回旋脉射(Electron Cyclotron Maser, ECM)是磁旋管的基本原理,理论依据是一个相对论效应,利用此效应可将电子磁场中旋转的能量,转换为高功率的电磁波电子枪所产生的电流,一般均为直流,不会产生辐射。所以必须借由某种机制,将电子群聚成一团一团的交流电子,才能把电子动能传输给电磁波。而启动群聚的是一个弱电磁波,群聚后的电子流再把动能回馈电磁波,使波增长其强度,就会产生受激辐射


回旋管最早是由苏联制造[1],目前的制造商包括 Communications & Power Industries (USA), Gycom (Russia), Thales Group (EU),CEERI (INDIA), Toshiba (Japan) and Bridge12 Technologies, Inc.系统制造商包括 Gyrotron Technology, Inc。
