Amazon Redshift基於較舊的PostgreSQL 8.0.2版本並對其進行了改動。[3] [4]最初的公眾預覽版（beta）於2012年11月發布[5]，完整版則於2013年2月15日發布。該服務可以處理其他大多數應用程式使用ODBC和JDBC建立的連接。[6]
根據Forrester在2018年第四季度發布的雲端資料倉儲（Cloud Data Warehouse）報告，Amazon Redshift的雲端資料倉儲部署最大，超過6,500個。在2018年由Gigaom進行的基準測試中，Redshift的表現優於Microsoft Azure。[7]。
亞馬遜在其「APN合作夥伴」計劃列出了眾多的商業智慧型軟體所有者及經過測試的工具[8]，包括Actian、Actuate Corporation、Alteryx、Dundas Data Visualization、IBM Cognos、InetSoft、Infor、Logi Analytics、Looker (company)、MicroStrategy、Pentaho[9][10]、Qlik、SiSense、Tableau Software和 Yellowfin。提供資料整合工具的合作夥伴包括Informatica和SnapLogic。系統整合和諮詢合作夥伴包括埃森哲、德勤、凱捷和DXC Technology。
