開眼魷目

開眼魷目^[1][2]（學名：Oegopsida）又稱鎗烏賊^[3][4]，舊為亞目，是身體細長、呈長錐形，有十隻觸腕、其中兩隻明顯較長，肉鰭只集中在頭部；開眼目另一個明顯特徵是在所有的觸手的吸盤上都帶有倒鉤刺，雖然小型魷魚的倒鉤刺可能作為一種口感被人類食用，但是大型魷魚的卻成為所有無脊椎動物門中最具有攻擊性的觸手。

大眼螢魷魚；夜晚出沒，會發出大量藍綠色螢光。

開眼魷目和閉眼魷目均屬於十腕總目，和墨魚目（即墨魚）、八腕總目（即章魚）一樣都會噴墨、會變化顏色、嘴裡也像牠們一樣有鸚鵡嘴狀的齒舌口器；開眼魷目因為身體細長、呈流線型而非常適合游泳，但是快速移動時只能以噴射的方式直線後退，靈活性不如墨魚、腦容量更是遠低於章魚，不過游泳速度卻是頭足綱內最快的，有些物種甚至可以「飛」出水面一小段距離^[5]。

天敵

一般的海魚要想捕獵魷魚並不容易，因為魷魚的墨汁還含有毒素，可以用來麻痺敵害。海豚是魷魚的天敵之一，海豚會繞過煙幕窮追魷魚。海豚只食用魷魚的頭部，一隻海豚能吞下成百隻魷魚的頭。抹香鯨也是其天敵之一。
