生平

1946年，薩維尼出生在美國賓夕法尼亞州匹茲堡的一個義大利裔美國人的家庭。^[1]他們家信奉天主教，他在中央天主教高中畢業。薩維尼考入博恩特帕克大學，後來參加美國軍隊，遠赴越南參加越南戰爭。回國後，又到卡內基梅隆大學讀書。^[2]
