早年生活

溫特森出生於英格蘭曼徹斯特。^[1]在蘭開夏郡的阿克寧頓長大，她打算成為一名五旬節運動的基督教傳教士，她6歲就開始傳福音和布道。^[2][3]

16歲的溫特森已經確定自己是女同性戀並離開家。^[4]不久後她來到阿柯林頓與羅戴爾學院學習，靠打零工維持生計，並且考入了牛津大學聖凱薩琳學院學習英語。^[5][6]

2002年，溫特森結束了她與BBC廣播電台的Peggy Reynolds12年的伴侶關係。^[7]後來她曾與戲劇導演華納（英語：Deborah Warner）和治療師蘇西·奧巴赫（英語：Susie Orbach）有過戀情。^[8]她的小說《激情》（The Passion）靈感來自於她與她的文稿代理人帕特·卡瓦納（英語：Pat Kavanagh (agent)）的緋聞。^[9]2015年，她與心理治療師蘇西·奧巴赫（英語：Susie Orbach）結婚。^[10]
