蕾吉娜·史派克特1980年2月18日出生於莫斯科的犹太裔音樂世家[2][3][4]。居住在蘇聯莫斯科時，由於猶太人面臨種族歧視和政治歧視，父母決定移民[5][6][7]。
1989年，她和家人離開莫斯科，移民到美國，並定居於紐約州布朗克斯[8][9]。她的父親是一名攝影師，也是一名業餘的小提琴手，她的母親原是一名俄羅斯音樂學院的音樂教授，現在任教於美國紐約的一所公立小學。
蕾吉娜·史派克特6歲習琴，創作受到多種風格的影響。近年來，她活躍於紐約的反傳統民謠（Anti-Folk）圈子內，這是一種源於80年代美國的音樂流派。
