海倫·達德森·普林斯

海倫·達德森·普林斯（英語：Helen Dodson Prince，1905年12月31日—2002年2月4日）是一名美國天文學家，在密西根大學開創了耀斑研究工作。

早年生活和教育

海倫於1905年12月31日出生於馬里蘭州巴爾的摩，父親是亨利·克萊·達德森（Henry Clay Dodson），母親是海倫·沃爾特（Helen Walter）。由於精通物理和數學，普林斯獲得古徹學院（英语：Goucher College）數學系的全額獎學金，並於1927年在該校獲得文學學士學位。在本科學習期間，受弗洛倫斯·P·劉易斯（Florence P. Lewis）的影響，她開始研究天文學。普林斯繼續在密西根大學攻讀研究生，並於1932年和1934年分別獲得天文學碩士和博士學位。普林斯的博士論文題目是《參宿增十一光譜研究》^[1]。

職業生涯

1933年至1945年，普林斯在威爾斯利學院擔任天文學助理教授。1934年和1935年的夏天，普林斯在瑪麗亞·米切爾天文台（英语：Maria Mitchell Observatory）繼續研究參宿增十一的光譜。她的研究成果後來發表在《天文物理期刊》。1938年和1939年的夏天，普林斯在巴黎天文台研究太陽活動時，對太陽活動的興趣變得更加突出。1943至1945年間，普林斯在麻省理工學院輻射實驗室工作，為雷達研究做出重要貢獻。二戰結束後，她回到古徹學院，1945年至1950年擔任天文學教授。1947年，普林斯開始在麥克馬斯特-胡爾伯特天文台（英语：McMath–Hulbert Observatory）從事研究工作，最後離開麻省理工學院，成為天文台的副主任，並在密西根大學擔任天文學教授^[1][2]。1976年從密西根大學退休後，普林斯作為榮譽教授一直在天文台工作到1979年^[3]。即便如此，從1979年到2002年去世前，普林斯仍是約翰霍普金斯大學應用物理實驗室的獨立顧問。她的會士資格包括美國天文學會、美國科學促進會和美國地球物理聯盟的研究員^[4]。
