庫里拉上將2022年4月1日就任中央司令部司令，其前任弗蘭克·麦肯齐上將向他表示祝賀。

庫里拉出生於加州，在明尼蘇達州埃爾克河長大，獲得美國軍事學院航空航天工程學士學位、瑞吉斯大學工商管理碩士學位以及國家戰爭學院國家安全研究碩士學位。從西點軍校畢業後，1988年被任命為美國陸軍步兵軍官。^[9]在他的早期職業生涯中，庫里拉參加美國入侵巴拿馬^[10]和海灣戰爭，以及在海地、科索沃和波斯尼亞。^[9]

2004年至2014年，庫里拉駐紮在美國中央司令部負責的地理區域^[9]，部署到伊拉克、阿富汗和敘利亞^[10]。2005年被派往伊拉克，擔任第25步兵師第1旅第24團第1營營長^[4]。在摩蘇爾一次戰鬥中，他“身中三槍，但在指揮部隊時繼續向叛亂分子還擊”，之後被授予帶有"V" device（英语："V" device）的銅星勳章^[4][11][12]，曾指揮第75遊騎兵團。^[10]。

2022年1月7日拜登總統提名庫里拉接任美国中央司令部司令^[13][14]，參議院於2月22日一致確認庫里拉的任命，並在4月1日接任中央司令部司令^[15]。

2022年被派往德國，負責監督美國軍隊部署，以應對2021年—2022年俄乌危机^[16]。
