Pholidichthys és un gènere de peixos marins i l'únic de la família dels folidíctids (Pholidichthyidae).^[1]

Etimologia

Pholidichthys prové dels mots grecs pholis, -idos (escata) i ichthys (peix).^[2]

Descripció

Cos anguil·liforme. 1 nariu a cada costat del cap. Absència d'escates. Aletes pelvianes per sota o una mica abans de la base de les pectorals. 2-3 radis tous i 1 espina feble a les aletes pelvianes. 70-79 radis tous a l'aleta dorsal i 55-62 a l'anal. 15 radis a les pectorals. L'aleta caudal conflueix amb les aletes dorsal i anal. Ossos faringis inferiors fosos en un de sol. 71-79 vèrtebres.^[3]

Distribució geogràfica

Es troba al Pacífic:^[4][5] des d'Austràlia^{[6][7][8][9][10][11]} (el Territori del Nord i Austràlia Occidental)^[12][13] i l'extrem sud-oest de les illes Filipines^[14] (el mar de Sulu^[15][16] i les illes Calamianes)^[17][18] fins a les illes Salomó,^[19][20] incloent-hi Malàisia,^[21][19][22] Indonèsia,^{[23][24][25][26]} Papua Nova Guinea^[27][28] (incloent-hi les badies de Milne^[29] i de Kimbe),^[30] Nova Caledònia,^[6][31] el mar de Cèlebes^[16][15] i, possiblement també, el mar de la Xina Meridional.^{[32][33][34][35][36][3][37]}

Observacions

No formen part del comerç de peixos ornamentals.^[3]
