Teharonhiawagon bzw. Teharonhiawako[1] (zu deutsch „der den Himmel mit zwei Händen hält“)[2] ist ein guter Geist in den Mythen der nordamerikanischen Irokesen[3] und Wyandot. Er ist der Bruder und Gegenspieler des Tawiskaron bzw. Sawiskera[1], der als böser Gott bekannt war.[3]
Teharonhiawagon ist der gute Gott der nordamerikanischen Irokesen. Sein Zweitname, Oterongtongnia, bedeutet „Bäumchen“.[2] Bei den Seneca heißt der gute Gott Djuskaha, was so viel wie „Kleiner Spross“ bedeutet.[2] Bei ihnen beherrscht er den Osten der Erde.[2]
Alle guten Dinge wurden von ihm erschaffen, er ist der Spender der Gesundheit und des Wohlstandes, entsprechend wurden ihm der Morgen und der Tag zugeordnet.[2]
Tawiskaron zerstörte vor allem die Schöpfungen seines Zwillingsbruders Teharonhiawagon. Er erschuf Ungeheuer in Menschengestalt, raubte die Sonne und ließ eine Kröte das für die Menschen lebensnotwendige Wasser trinken und verderben.[3]
In einigen Riten erscheint Tawiskaron als großer Zauberer, dem man zugetraut hat, verschiedene Krankheiten zu heilen.[3] Ihm wurden der Abend und die Nacht zugeordnet[2] und ihm waren die Nachtzeremonien gewidmet.[3] In der Mythologie der Seneca, die ebenfalls zu den Irokesen gehören, beherrscht er den Osten.[2]
