Coonagh is situated in County Limerick, Ireland, on the banks of the River Shannon near the border with County Clare. A 2008 boundary extension resulted in its inclusion within Limerick city.[1] It is part of the Catholic parish Parteen-Meelick-Coonagh in the diocese of Limerick, with several generations of Coonagh families having attended Meelick National School (Scoil Mhuire Miliuc), County Clare. In 1111 AD, Parteen, Meelick and Coonagh were assigned to the Diocese of Limerick at the Synod of Ráth Breasail when the boundaries of the dioceses were drawn up.
The Tithe Applotments of County Clare[2] also indicate that Coonagh was part of the parish of Killeely in 1833.
