Vande Bharat Express is India's first indigenously built Semi- High speed trainset; based on the concept of Multi-unit Distributed Traction powered EMU trainsets; designed for mainline long distance operations.
It is jointly designed and manufactured by Integral Coach Factory and Medha Servo Drives (Pvt.) Ltd. at Perambur, Chennai under the Indian government's Make in India initiative. The service was named Vande Bharat Express on 27 January 2019. These trainsets will be replacing premium trains of Indian Railways, like Shatabdi, Rajdhani, Duronto Express etc. in coming days.
