The Hrubieszów Revolution[1][2] (Polish: Rewolucja hrubieszowska, Ukrainian: Грубешівська революція; 8 March — 10 April, 1944) was a series of an armed clashes between the Home Army and Peasant Battalions against the Ukrainian Insurgent Army, Ukrainian Legion of the Self–Defense and 14th Grenadier Division of the Waffen–SS “Galicia” in the Hrubieszów and Tomaszów Counties. In January and February of 1944, the Ukrainian Insurgent Army carried out the anti–Polish attacks in the Lublin Voivodeship as they did the same in the Wołyń Voivodeship and Galicia in 1943.[3] In response, the Polish armed units of the Home Army and Peasant Battalions carried out the retaliatory actions against the Ukrainian armed units in March and April of 1944.[4] This, in turn, led to entry into the area a forces of the Ukrainian Legion of the Self–Defense and 14th Grenadier Division of the Waffen–SS “Galicia”, which resulted in the intensification of the anti–Polish actions and outbreak of the Polish–Ukrainian ethnic conflict.[5]
