Commander and Grand Officer of the National Order of Scientific Merit (Ordem Nacional do Mérito Científico)[2] and member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (Academia Brasileira de Ciências - ABC), João Lucas is professor emeritus of the Department of Mathematics of the Federal University of Ceará (UFC), and author of several books on mathematics. He is a member of the Science and Technology Council of the Ceará state government.[3][4]
