While Vuong was nominated as a Liberal Party candidate, the party disavowed him days before the election, following reports of an ongoing lawsuit against him and his face-mask producing company TakeCare Supply,[3] as well as a sexual assault charge from 2019. Vuong failed to disclose either during the party's internal vetting process. As nominations had already closed by that point, Vuong remained on the ballot as a Liberal and was elected. Vuong beat Norm Di Pasquale, the NDP candidate in Spadina-Fort York, by less than 1,400 votes.[4]
Adding to the confusion Vuong's website and social media profiles don't expressly list him as an Independent.[5]
Vuong has indicated in comments to the True North Centre, a far-right media and advocacy organization, that he may be looking towards running for the Conservative Party of Canada for the next election.[6]
Prior to entering politics, Vuong worked in the business and finance industry and served as a reserve officer in the Royal Canadian Navy.
