Penélope Cruz is a Spanish actress known for her performances in film and television. Over her career she has received numerous accolades including an Academy Award, a BAFTA Award, a Cannes Film Festival Award, three Goya Awards, and an Independent Spirit Award as well as nominations for a Primetime Emmy Award, four Golden Globe Awards, and six Screen Actors Guild Awards. Cruz received an Honorary Cesar in 2018.

Cruz is known for her numerous collaborations with Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar and won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance as Maria Elena in Woody Allen's Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008). She is the first Spanish actress to have been nominated for an Academy Award, as well as the first and only Spanish actress to have received the award.[1] She was Oscar-nominated for her performances as Raimunda in the drama Volver (2006), Carla Albanese in the musical romance Nine (2009), and Janis Martínez Moreno in the melodrama Parallel Mothers (2021).
For her portrayal as fashion designer Donatella Versace in the FX limited series The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story for which she was nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie.[2] She received the Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Actress for Volver (2006), and the Venice Film Festival's Volpi Cup for Best Actress for Parallel Mothers (2021).
