The province of Daghestan (Persian: ولایت داغستان, romanized: Velāyat-e Dâghestân) was a velayat (province) of the Safavid Empire, centred on the territory of the present-day Republic of Dagestan (North Caucasus, Russia).[2] Numerous high-ranking Safavid figures originally hailed from the province.
