Mehrestan (Persian: مهرستان), formerly known as Zaboli (زابلي),[3] also Romanized as Zābolī; also known as Qal‘eh-ye Zābolī (English: Fort Zaboli); formerly, Magas,[4] is a city in the Central District of Mehrestan County, Sistan and Baluchestan province, Iran, serving as capital of both the county and the district. It is also the administrative center for Zaboli Rural District.[5]

At the 2006 census, its population was 7,672 in 1,560 households, when it was in the former Zaboli District of Saravan County.[6] The following census in 2011 counted 10,112 people in 2,171 households,[7] by which time the district had been separated from the county to become a part of the newly formed Zaboli County[8] (later renamed Mehrestan County).[3] The latest census in 2016 showed a population of 12,245 people in 2,969 households.[2]
