1337x is an online website that provides a directory of torrent files and magnet links used for peer-to-peer file sharing through the BitTorrent protocol.[1] According to the TorrentFreak news blog, 1337x is the second-most popular torrent website as of 2024[update].[2] The U.S. Trade Representative flagged it as one of the most notorious pirate sites earlier in 2024.[3] The site and its variants have been blocked in a variety of nations, including Australia and Portugal.[4] More than 6.59 million takedown requests targeting the domain 1337x.to have been sent to Google.[5]

History
1337x was founded in 2007 and saw increasing popularity in 2016 after the closure of KickassTorrents.[1] In October 2016, it introduced a website redesign with new functionalities.[1][6]
The site was banned from Google search queries and did not appear when searching through Google search.[1][6] This action was taken following a DMCA complaint by Feelgood Entertainment in 2015.[1][7] In 2015, the site moved from its older .pl domain to .to, partly in order to evade the block.[1][6][8] The site now appears on the Google Search, while fake sites and proxies rank on the top.
1337x's design can be compared to the now defunct h33t.[9] It has been touted as an alternative to the Pirate Bay.[10][11]
