The 1846 Rhode Island gubernatorial election was held on 1 April 1846 in order to elect the governor of Rhode Island. Law and Order nominee and incumbent lieutenant governor Byron Diman defeated incumbent Liberation governor Charles Jackson, who was jointly nominated by the Democratic Party. However, as no candidate received a majority of the total votes cast as was required by Rhode Island law, the election was forwarded to the Rhode Island legislature, who chose Diman as governor.[1]
