The Lions went 8-2 in the regular season and made the Division II playoffs. In the first round, they faced conference foe West Alabama and won, avenging a 31-26 loss earlier in the season. In the next round, they faced another conference foe, Delta State. Delta State won 42-14, eliminating the Lions from the playoffs.^[1][2] It was their seventh straight season in the playoffs.^[3]

This was Terry Bowden's third and final season at UNA; he was named the head coach of the University of Akron football team in December 2011.^[4]
