Mangudadatu endorsed his son, Datu Abdullah Sangki, Maguindanao mayor Pax Ali Mangudadatu (Lakas–CMD), who won the election against Sharifa Akeel (Aksyon Demokratiko).[16][17] On May 2, 2022, the Commission on Elections en banc upheld its First Division's resolution to disqualify Pax Ali over a residency issue.
