Perspective

At the draw on 4 July 2025 in Bangkok, Thailand, fourteen teams will drawn into two groups of six. Teams from the same association may not be placed in the same group; as there are three Thai clubs in the group stage, a maximum of two of them can be placed in the same group, with one of them must be the title holders, Buriram United. The group stage will be a single round-robin format, with each team playing three home and three away fixtures. Initially, the top four teams from each group advancing to the quarter-finals. However, following the withdrawal of Indonesian teams, the quarter-finals were removed. Instead, only the top two teams will qualify for the semi-finals.

Notes

  1. 2024–25 Liga 1 champions and runners-up, Persib and Dewa United Banten, were initially invited by the AFF to participate in the 2025–26 ASEAN Club Championship. However, both teams declined to take part due to logistical issues. Liga Indonesia Baru then proposed sending Malut United and Persebaya, the third and fourth-placed teams of the 2024–25 Liga 1, but the proposal was rejected by the AFF.[5]
