The 2025 Alberta municipal elections are scheduled to be held on 20 October 2025.[1] Chief elected officials (mayors or reeves) and councillors (or aldermen), are up for election in all cities (except Lloydminster), towns, villages, specialized municipalities, and municipal districts, as are trustees for public and separate school divisions.

Background
Nominations for the election will open January 1, 2025, and close on September 22, 2025.[2] The government of Alberta has tabled legislation to reform the municipal government system; the Municipal Affairs Statutes Amendment Act, includes two pieces of legislation: the Local Authorities Election Act (LAEA) and the Municipal Government Act (MGA).[3] The proposed changes would enable municipal political parties but only as a "pilot project" in Calgary and Edmonton.[4] The Executive Council of Alberta would also have the power to remove councillors.[5]
