8-OH-DPAT

8-OH-DPAT is a serotonin 5-HT_1A receptor agonist of the 2-aminotetralin family which was developed in the 1980s and has been widely used to study the function of the 5-HT_1A receptor.^[1][2] It was one of the first major 5-HT_1A receptor full agonists to have been discovered.

Originally believed to be selective for the 5-HT_1A receptor, 8-OH-DPAT was later found to act as a serotonin 5-HT₇ receptor agonist and serotonin reuptake inhibitor or releasing agent as well.^{[3][4][5][6][7]}

In animal studies, 8-OH-DPAT has been shown to possess antidepressant,^[8] anxiolytic,^[9] serenic,^[10] anorectic,^[11] antiemetic,^[12] hypothermic,^[13] hypotensive,^[14] bradycardic,^[14] hyperventilative,^[15][16][17] and analgesic effects.^[18]
